Summer is totally awesome!

I biked to work today wearing only a t-shirt (yes pants too) but no jacket or anything and it was totally ok! I feel so refreshed and charged up by the lovely weather! My research has been going fairly well.. I have adjusted my contraption to which the dentin discs are fastened to.. first it was too loose today I broke one disc by tightening the butterfly screws too tight.. Well tomorrow I am going to use it as I have planned to do and then it is smooth sailing.......
Our new camera rocks too... It is Olympus mju Tough 3000 and It is totally great with HD video recording and water resistance are great for future summer holiday swims and parties..

Ok just wanted to say that we are alive and well here Pulla got his/her check up on Monday heart beat over 160 and moving around.. So all good. Oh and bit of bad news for my friends who applied to MD side of medical school as they were both short in exam scores to get it.. only 4p and 0.4p... so really close, but that is how they always are..

The ship has sailed..

This past weekend we took a trip to Helsinki to visit my family celebrate Aapos graduation (congrats!) and test out dads sailing boat! We got to meet everybody, thank you all for your hospitality and I got some work done as I visited Biomedicum Helsinki.
Here are some photos of the little babies residing at the southern city of Finland..

Our godson Albert with some corn puff food thing that got stuck to his lips and later to many places as it turned all sticky and gooey. But he is so very cute!! Oh and the dude on the left of Albert is Antti my twin.

We did a little fixing as we got on the boat.. but mostly it was sailing ready in the evening and there was gentle breeze in the air to give us a good push to go out and enjoy sailing at the waters surrounding the white city (Helsinki)

Like father like son.....I guess. There I am steering the boat and hoping it was on caribbean waters, trying to ignore the +13C weather and enjoy the beatiful evening sun at 10pm.

There it is, Helsinki cathedral and the sailingboat and the sun and... It was truly great to be sailing, thanks for the experience Jaakko!

Yearly picnic 2010

At the end of school year we got together with our good friends at our house for some BBQ finnish style and little american. The day started out like most Oulu summer days +6C and we were planning on indoor affair. Later in the day the weather cleared out and we got wooping +15C sunny spot for us. So we used the outside BBQ and had some sausages, potato salad and green salad. Some chips and salsa and smores just to top it off. Thank you all for coming and it is so sad you are so far away this summer... But we are keeping the Oulu population above negative while you guys are traveling around the globe..

Mc Gyver PhD project..

Today at "work" (the office where I do my daily problem solving) I hooked up a piece of old plastic to a rubbery tube to a pipette and tied it all together with a (duct tape) research material and then melted some bees wax and placed a tooth in the middle of it all.. And that is what they call research.. I hope. I was great fun and makes me happy even to think about it.. it is like doing stuff you want to and getting a PhD material out of it.. Amazing. Most of the time I am going through my mind thinking how I can test for which property of my solvent...little like this I guess...


God is good and has arranged an amazing summer work for me here!
Yesterday it was suny and lovely, today it was thunder and lightning and almmost below freezeing.. It is funny how the weather here at 65deg. North can change from sunny to blizard in matter of hours.. A little reminder that we live at the very fringes of civilization...
Even if it was cold we BBQ:d some sausages for dinner, just because it is summer and that is when you BBQ stuff. Hopefully this summer we will have more of those sunny nice days to balance out the coming winter... (finnish way of thinking...)
